Fun Reading Activities

 

Fun reading activities was a session incorporating lots of games to engage reluctant readers and promote co-operative learning. Firstly starter tasks with single words & short phrases such as conundrum & connect games were played. We progressed into games matching up key words and their definitions by playing noughts & crosses, quick fire pairs and slap. Skimming and scanning games were played in a fastest hands up game & crossword challenge. Sequencing was practised in a washing line game. Memory and summarizing techniques were reinforced through running dictation and jigsaw group games. Memrise, cartoon creator, textivate & youtube subject specific songs were shared as a means of using technology to promote reading in class. A pack of Kagan strategies was handed out to all subject leaders & is available electronically with the resources for this session.
