Emotional Intelligence - the teenage brain
FInd here the notes from Victor's session on emotional intelligence and the teenage brain. From a personal perspective I found this so interesting and the session gave me ideas that I was able to pick up and use the next day in my teaching.
Check out Stephen's Prezi on Growth Mindset. This is a positive way of helping to develop more resilient learners.

Teaching and Learning INSET February 2015

Our T&L INSET in February 2015 was hopefully the start of a great partnership between HCC and Thornhill Academy, the school featured in the channel 4 programme Educating Yorkshire.

The main focus of the day was on resilience, the teenage brain, growth mindset and effective group work and questioning.

The feedback received about the day has been great:

"Good to get an insight into strategies used be people from a school similar to ours, also from people who still teach".

"Emotional Intelligence was interesting and useful."

"It was inspiring, our kids would really benefit from this."

"Nice to be among other professionals that deal with the same issues."

"Enjoyable and engaging day."

Find the resources from the day below.

A great resource to use with students to get them to think of excellent quetions to ask you and each other.
Independence, curiosity & creativity
These are the main notes used in the session on independence. These can be used alongside the other notes on group work, asking questions and debate.

I particularly find the picture activity on the camels and the issue of donors. I am definitely going to try a picture/question philosophy for children activity like this!
Keyring Reminders
Print these on card, cut them up and attach them to a keyring to use as reminders of how you can ensure your lessons are creative, engaging and promote independence.
Running a class debate
Group work roles
One way of organising groups so that group work is more structured. This may help to make group work more productive and provides all students with a focus so that all are engaged.
Some guidance on how to organise and run a class debate. This is great framework if you have never run a debate before. This will help to keep it more structured and effective.
